Slow Arts events throughout Maui will begin on the Third Thursday of each month, starting January 19, 2010, from 5-9 pm and beyond. Participating restaurants and eateries will serve Slow Food meals and beverages using local produce and traditional recipes... with guests dining in the company of others, family style. Nearby galleries will provide relaxed environments for easy dialogue. All events allow for enjoyable connections, conversations and activities that foster a more fulfilling appreciation of the arts, of one another and of life.
Slow Arts on Maui is inspired by the “Slow Movement,” a force that is sweeping the globe in response to the ever-increasing fast pace that confronts us. The Movement advocates slowing down so we might take control of our time and decide how to spend it wisely. Most people involved in the Movement are choosing to spend quality time being happier... by caring, appreciating, belonging and being playful.
Parents are having real-time conversations with their children. Employers are creating bonding activities for staff. Neighbors are walking around their fences to share stories.
Participation in Slow Arts on Maui has a single requirement: a willingness to giggle, chuckle and laugh at a snail's pace.
